Nirvana, synonymous with family and history

The European influence experienced at Hotel Nirvana is no coincidence, as it dates back to 1861 when the area where it is located was named Nueva Helvecia, a colony founded by the first Swiss immigrants to Uruguay through hard work, hope, and dedication.

The location where the Hotel now stands and specifically the name Nirvana are due to how Guillermo Ingold and his wife Clara Wierz (second generation of those settlers) named the farm they adapted to become their permanent residence.

Years passed, but the reverence and respect for nature remained, as evidenced in 1941 when the cornerstone was laid for the construction of an unprecedented building, Hotel Nirvana. A hotel that, ahead of its time, focused on sports, enjoying nature, and fine dining.

It was with this vision that both the building and its surroundings were designed, opening its doors a few years later on November 10, 1943.

In 1958, the Chaquiriand family took the helm and has proudly maintained it to this day. First Víctor, then his son Armando, and now Virginia (Armando’s daughter), have created a unique imprint that keeps traditions alive while combining them with the most cutting-edge environmental sustainability practices.

Bet on family, nature, and sustainability

This is the unmistakable hallmark of Hotel Nirvana, which undoubtedly confirms it every day as “a world apart”.

In honoring the tradition of the first Swiss settlers who arrived in the fertile land of Nueva Helvecia, Hotel Nirvana has evolved to become something much larger than its facilities. Its enduring presence for over 80 years confirms that there is something that envelops it and makes it unique: that “family value”. A value that is felt in every corner, in every action, and also in its aromas and sounds.

Hotel Nirvana has indeed become a meeting place for friends and family. A place where families can leave behind the worries and stress of the city to enjoy in “a world apart”. A place to celebrate birthdays, anniversaries, parties, or simply to gather.

It is a second home for grandparents wanting to enjoy time with their grandchildren, for parents who want to experience nature with their children, and where siblings can play outside, surrounded by nature and peace. Indeed, Nirvana is synonymous with family.

Family value!

Because in everything, you can see the love with which the Chaquiriand family has managed it.
